ASML ships 100th scanner for EUV lithography
ASML Holding, which produces lithographic equipment for the manufacture of semiconductor components, has reported on the financial results of the past year. The company was able to ship its 100th scanner to work with EUV, and this year it expects to increase its profile revenue by 30%. Work begins on next-generation EUV equipment.

ASML finished last year with record revenues of 14 billion euros, which was 18% more than in 2021. Of this amount, about 4.5 billion euros came from the sale of equipment designed to work with ultra-hard ultraviolet radiation (EUV). It is used in progressive technical processes by TSMC and Samsung, Intel Corporation until recently hoped to implement EUV in its 7-nm technical process.
ASML’s net profit increased from 2.6 to 3.6 billion. The company also expects to make good money this year. At the very least, revenue from the sale of EUV equipment should increase by 30% to 5.8 billion euros. Optimism for the supplier is added by TSMC’s plans to spend a record $ 28 billion, the bulk of this amount will be directed to the development of advanced technological processes that require the use of EUV lithography.
The past year has symbolized an important milestone for ASML – the company has shipped the 100th scanner for working with EUV lithography. In the fourth quarter, ASML received orders for the supply of six more EUV scanners, in the near future the company will receive about 6.2 billion euros for them. ASML’s in-service EUV equipment produced 26 million silicon wafers last year, nine million of which were processed in the fourth quarter.
In about five years, the industry will require the introduction of next generation EUV lithography equipment using high aperture optics. Its ASML is currently being developed jointly with Zeiss. The first optical modules of the new generation will be assembled by the end of this year, next year a prototype of the equipment will appear in the ASML laboratory, and customers will receive the first copies of new scanners no earlier than 2023. And only in 2025 the mass introduction of such lithographic machines in mass production will begin.
This year, in addition to the continuing high demand for processors of various types, the lithography equipment market will be fueled by a revival in the RAM segment and in the direction of automotive components. The latter remain in short supply, someone has to produce them, and there is almost no free capacity left. We will have to introduce additional, according to market participants.
