Huawei will try to prove in court that it does not threaten US national security
09.02.2021 [23:25],
Maxim Shevchenko

Chinese company Huawei filed a lawsuit in the United States, challenging its recognition as a threat to national security. A statement filed yesterday with the US Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit seeks to review last year’s FCC ruling that Huawei poses a security threat to the United States. This lawsuit is related to the change of government in the United States.

Recall that the administration of Donald Trump, the previous president of the United States, cut Huawei off from American technologies, thereby, among other things, depriving it of the opportunity to produce its own processors and purchase solutions from the same Qualcomm or MediaTek. The United States also put pressure on allies in order to achieve a ban on the use of Huawei equipment in other countries. In its lawsuit, Huawei claims the FCC ruling in December exceeded the organisation’s mandate and was “arbitrary, capricious abuse of power, with no real evidence.”.

However, the FCC intends to defend its decision made last year. The organization says it has enough evidence to consider Huawei a real threat to US national security. US officials have long claimed that the Chinese authorities may use Huawei telecommunications equipment for surveillance, but they have not provided any conclusive evidence of this.

Huawei founder Ren Zhengfei claims the company has never spied and will not spy for any country. He hopes the new US president will be more open to policies that serve the interests of American companies, and looks forward to a phone call from Biden. Huawei founder says he still hopes to work with American companies, which he says will benefit both the Chinese and American economies.

It is worth noting that the administration of the new US president has not yet clearly stated its approach to the issue with Huawei. It was said that the government would protect the country from threats from China, but no promises were made to extend sanctions against Huawei.

The Trump administration has filed two charges against Huawei, and the company’s CFO has been under house arrest in Canada for two years. The tougher sanctions against Huawei had an extremely negative impact on the company’s smartphone business and even forced it to sell the Honor sub-brand. However, Huawei says it has managed to boost both profit and revenue in 2021.
