Google still hasn’t added privacy shortcuts to its iOS apps in the App Store
Beginning December 8, Apple requires developers to publish new apps and updates to existing programs with privacy labels that tell you what data the software collects when it is used. Many developers, including Facebook, have complied with this requirement, but Google still ignores the new rule.
The company hasn’t updated its core iOS apps like Gmail, Google Maps, Chrome, and YouTube since December 7th. Accordingly, this software has not received privacy labels. They are only assigned to programs such as Google Translate, Motion Stills, Google Play Movies and Classroom, although they have not been updated recently either. All other services of the search giant still do not report what data Google collects with their help.
It’s worth noting that on January 5th, Google told TechCrunch that it would add privacy labels to its iOS apps “this week or next,” but that still hasn’t happened. The company has not yet explained the reason for the delay. It is noteworthy that the search giant usually distributes firmware updates much more often, and its Android applications continue to be regularly updated. It has been speculated that Google is hesitant to publish privacy labels due to negative reviews received by other companies such as Facebook.
Apple implements privacy notices in iOS 14.3 to notify users of what data apps are collecting so they can take this into account when choosing which software to use.
