At CES 2021, Kyocera SLD Laser (KSLD) announced the launch of LaserLight, the world’s first semiconductor dual-light white light and infrared light source. The new laser diode can simultaneously or separately emit a beam of the brightest white light at a distance of one kilometer and, in the same spot, an infrared beam at a distance of 250 meters. In the latter case, it is a solution for a high-precision rangefinder with an error of 1%.

The Japanese Kyocera received this new and promising product together with the acquisition of the young American company SLD Laser, at the origins of which was the legendary Japanese inventor of superbright blue LEDs and the Nobel Prize winner Shuji Nakamura.
