Electronics in Russia will rise in price up to 50% due to a shortage of components
28.01.2021 [17:37],
Andrey Sozinov

Prices for electronics in Russia may grow very strongly in the near future, Vedomosti and Izvestia report, citing their own knowledgeable sources. The reason for this will be the global shortage of semiconductors and other components for electronic equipment, which began last year and is now gaining proportions.

Vedomosti predicts a price increase of up to 40%. The publication reports that domestic retailers are already fully experiencing the consequences of a shortage of components. This mainly concerns devices supplied from China, Nikolay Popov, the head of the purchasing department of the retail network “Citylink”, told the publication. He noted that depending on the supplier, orders of the retail chain are provided only for 30-50% of the total volume of placed orders.

Nevertheless, so far this allows us to meet the existing demand. On purchase prices, the representative of Citylink notes, the deficit is reflected in different ways, but on average prices increased by 10-20%. The deficit affected the delivery of monitors, affordable laptops and monoblocks to Russia the most.

In turn, Izvestia is less optimistic and predicts an increase in prices for electronics in Russia up to 50%, especially for goods of domestic brands. One of the main reasons is that suppliers inflate the prices of scarce components by tens of percent. In addition, companies have to pay for the services of brokers who look for and resell them leftover components from all over the world, and a new expense is to redesign products so that they can be created from existing materials. As a result, companies’ costs increased by tens of percent.

The company INOI, which develops smartphones, told Izvestia that prices for the purchase of components rose by 20-30%. INOI has already raised prices for many products and predicts further growth. Products rise in price by 20-30%, and some even by 50%. ATB Electronics and GS Nanotech also confirmed the increase in the cost of components and agreed that the increase in costs would lead to an increase in the final cost of products.

It is worth noting that the current sharp rise in the price of electronics was also affected by the fact that usually by the end of the year, many manufacturers restrain price increases in order to ensure high sales by the New Year holidays, and in January prices traditionally rise. It turns out that the deficit just coincided with the seasonal changes and intensified them.
